BOROUGH MAIN ROADS.
Problem of Their Upkeep. County Declines to Contribute. At the last meeting of the Franklin County Council the chairman (Mr Motion) reported that Crs Higginson, Fulton, Henry, Wilcox ami himself had had a friendly interview with the representatives of the Pukekoke Borough Council, with respect to the claim of the latter thut the County should eontrinute towards the upkeep of the main roads leading into the borough. After couferring for a long tir.ue nothing definite was done. The County representatives pointed out that the traffic coming over the roads was advantageous to the borough itself, and Pukekohe would not be anything like the township it was if it had not got this outside support. He also pointed out that the borough was using the county roads abutting on to the borough but the County did not ask the borough to contribute anything. They left the conference as wise as when they started. Nothing was done except that it was suggested that the borough should submit tie matter to a Commission, and th s Council's delegates agreed that that was the best thing to bo done. If the County had to pay—''well, they would have to. Cr Eenall congratulated the repiesentatives on the stand they had taken, the outlying districts of the County did not travel over these roads at all. It was unreasonable to ask the County to contribute anything. Cr Henry: The borough has a good deal to thank us for, instead of wanting to penalise us. If we bad such a township at Patumahoe we would give every facility. Crs Flanagan and Lyons also supported the action and decision of their representatives.
