The Waiuku Water Lock Proposal.
[TO THE EDITOR., Sir.—Far be ic frcm me to write o<-.e word that would tend to prevent the enterprise of the Waiuku peoph in ending a lock at the Needles, which I highly commend, although I have no engineering
knowledge in thi3 direction. I am simply writing to suggest that it might be more beneficial it the lock were erected at from Ta Tora to Waiau P», if a suitable position. This would include a much larger rating ana, and, providing it gives the same depth of wsUr at Waiuku, a roadway and bridge acro-s at this point would give an cutlet to the whole of th 3 Manukau from the heads to Waipipi, bringing them in touch with Pukekehe, Diury, etc , and deep water to within two miles of Paturaahne, The large rating area it would include would reduce the rate to atcut 3d r.er acre, instead of 2s. At anjrate I feel sure no harm can bj dona in my making this suggestion I have just noticed Messrs Lusk and Crisps's ccurleous and mr.deratetonid ktte-s in your issue if the 23rd ir.st., replying to mi.-.e on the moitga;>e tax question. I shall reply to these in the course of a few days. I desire to be sure of my facts before putting them in print. —1 am, etc , J. W. McLAKIN.
