A CLOSED ROAD.
Station-mastsr's Reply. The Pukekohe Cramter of Commerce was recently disturbed by the closing of one of the road inlets to the Pukekohe railway station arcl communicated with the Department. In reply the local stationmaster wrote (September 20th) to the Chamber secretary as fellows:— "In reply to yours of 16th ir,st. I have to inform you that the northern yard entrance gate was closed against traffic on account of read requiring repairs, ard the delay in re-opening is due to Eh-rtagc of melal. We have been expecting this daily ard it should arrive at any time. "In connection with this matter I would like to point out that the road in question was an addition to original plans and waa provided with a view of affording a means of entering (he yard at one end and departing the cthsr. It was r.ever intended to carry the wrrole of traffic to and frcm the station. A fi'st-class ruad was provided fiom the west tide of yard, but so Ion? as northern road wa3 in a lit Etate to permit of it, practically thu whtle of traffic went over it, and tha other road, which is a bitter one, was almost totally neglected. "The question of distribu ing the traffic is now under consideration, and if satisfactory arrangements can be made there will he no neceesity to close the road agair."
