WAIUKU.
OBITUARY. A v t ry highly respected pioneer settler passed away on Saturday evening in the person of Mr William Walters. Mr Walters was recently operated on in a private hospital in Auckland, and was thought to he progressing favourably. A charge took place, however, on Saturday, and the end came lapidly Mr Walters was one of the sturdy band of colonists who helped to subdue the wilderness and by real hard work make this district what it is to-day. He saw seivice with the old Waioku volunteer* at the time of the Maori war, and only quite recently received his grant for having, served his country. He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters for whom much sympathy is felt. The deceased gentleman was of a genial, kindly nature and was ever ready to help in time of need. HUNT CLUB RACES. The Pakuranga Hunt Club are holding two steeplechases at Mr P. Dromgool's property next Wednesday. The first will be restricted to members of the Club, whilst the second will be open to members of all clubs. On Tuesday and Thursday the hounds meet in the village at 11 a.m.
