AKA AKA DRAINAGE BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Aka Aka Drainage Board waa held on Saturday, 13th inst., at Waiuku, when the following members were present: -Messrs Hull (chairman), Hudson, Bent and the sceretary (Mr VV. J. King). The chairman reported that members of the Board ha J visited tha Waikato River to tiy and form an opinion what damage would be dona to the Northern channel by the groynes that were being constructed. Owing to the high state of the river it was impossible to arrive at any definite conclusion. ACREAGE RATING.

The following letter was received from tha Prims Minister: "In reference to your letter of 9th July, in which you suggest that it be msde optional for ratepayers in drainage districts to be rated on tha acreage basis, I may say that as promised I brought this matter before tha Minister for Internal Affairs. My colleague now states that this anomaly has engagrd his attention for some time. He has considered tne advisability cf allowing Boards to rate on the acreage basis, but while admitting tha usefulness of this scheme he is convinced that compulsory rating on a graduated scale, according to classification of the lands in tha district, is the most' equitable basis that could be laid down. This is provided in legislation which is to be considered by Parliament during the pment session."—The chairman explained that what the Board really wanted was classification rating on the acreage basii, and this had now besn provided for in the recent Drainage Bill.

Reported that arrangements had been made with Mr Bregman to attend to the Eastern dram floodgate.

Agrea! to char the Eastern drain as far as Mastey's and Shipheid'a ruads. Owing to the small attendance it was agreed to defer the dlscufsion on the forthcoming rate till a full meeting of th2 Board.
