TO VISIT WAIUKU.

The Harbour Board Again. Improving Harbour Facilities. With a view to seeing what can be done in the way of improving the shipping facilities at Waiuku, the members of the Auckland Barbour Board are to visit the district next Thursday. The chairman of the Board (Mr J. H. Gunson) stated on Saturday that there were certain suggestions in regard to Waiuku which were receiving the consideration of the Board, and which the members must have an opportunity of looking into un the spot. The Board would have certain proposals to place before the people of Waiuku on Thursday night. There were several proposals before the Board. One was that a lock should be placed at the Needles. This would not iu any way interfere with, but would contribute to, any future canal schemes which might be carried out. On the other hard, it was a work that could be done quite independent cf the canal question. "If something can bo done it will at once placj Waiuku district in a very commanding position as far as accessibility and trade is concerned," said Mr Gunqcn. '" However, .as I say, the whole thing is under 'consideration, and nothing (an be said regarding detail?, nor can any particulars be given a 9 to what will be submitted to the people of Waiuku." Mr Gunson said the members of the B:ard would be asay for two or three days. On their return they would have a very intimate knowledge of the conditions. The responsibility of the conttol of the Manukau was such that the Board must ktuw exactly what it was dealing with, and the trip was primarily arranged to acquire that knowledge. "At the same time," Mr Gunson continued, "I wculd like to say again that it is not possible for the Board to meet all demands, which are very numerous. But the puhli: may be sure that the various claims for the Board's consideration will be carefully sifted and justice done proportionate to the ability of the Board." The Board members will leave from Or.ehunga on Thursday morning, and will return on Friday or Saturday.
