A WELCOME SUBSIDY.
Fop The Franklin County. At the last meeting of the Franklin Council the announcement that the County wou!d receive the full subsidy of 10s in the £ was very favourably received by Councillors. When this county was included in the Manukau County about 6s 8d in the £ on tha three-farthing rate waa all the Road Boards received, us £2500 is the full amount which can be al lotted to any one county. As tha county last year only struck a farthing rate the distribution this year wss based on the rates col-k-ctecl by the Koad Boards, and as the I3W provides that one-half is to be paid t) ti;e county and onehalf to the Road Boards, the county's exchequer will benefit to the extent ol £1250. It was decided to credit each riding's account with tha amount which had been paid upon the rates collected by the different Boards in each riding, As riding accounts so far have only had one-half of last year's farthing rale placed to their credit, this amount will bs a welcome addition ;ind will Lelp to tide over matters financially until this season's ratca begin to flow in. -
