PATUMAHOE.

FOOTBALL, The defeat at "Kainui" in no wise I damped the ardour of our local team, j but rather caused them to determine j that at the next meeting victory j shculd result fof Patumahoe. Another j strenuous came between the local j team and Waiau was played on Satur- ; chy, on Cantalin's ground. Mr W. I Haeata was captain of the Mauku ; team, and the game resulted in a j win for the heme boys by six points i to nil. W. Haeata and T. Fin lay scored the tries fur Mauku. In the evening the Mauku Club I entertained their VVaiau viei(org at ■ a smoke concert in the hall. Mr 1 Pleydell, who acted as referee during the match, was in the chair. A lengthy programme of songs, recitations, etc., was gone through. Amang others who contributed items were Messrs tetter, Ryan, Roper, J. Mcl. arin and Sheppard. Special features were the vocal items rendered by the Patumahoe trio, Messrs Bree, Torkor ar.d Haeata. Mr Cotter's comic Go.;gs were much enjoyed, he having to respond to two or three encores. Mr Sheppard, the popular am l indefatigable eeereLury, and whose efforts are much appreciated by the club, was responsible for the carrying out of the arrangements for the evening. ACCIDENT. A nasty accident occurred at Yates seed farm last 'lkursday, whereby Mr Hesketh, of I'atumahoe, sustained a broken erm, Leavirg his horses and trap for a moment the animals started oli', and in his endeavour to overiake them and bring them to a standstill, Mr Heaketh by si me misadventure had his arm caught in the wheel of the vehicle with the above-mentioned result.
