TUAKAU SOUTH.
CYCLONIC STURM. A cyclonic storm passed across the river last Saturday week and damaged Messrs Bros ' fiaxmill. The roof was lifted clean off and deposited over a chain away. Luckily the mill was rot working at the time and no one was hurt. FLAX-MILLING. Mr G. Walker is about to open his flaxmiil again fcr the coming season, and is getting things in order to make a start. WHITEBAIT SEASON. Tlv3 whitebait sesson opened cn Monday, the Ist inst., and it wfs quite a harvest for tte Maoris. Over £IOO worth of fish wa3 bought the first day. Tne rain interfered somewhat with the catching, or there would have been more caught Messrs Frost's canning factory is in full swing and already a large quantity is preserved. If the fish are at all plentiful it is estimated that over £2OOO will he paid out during the next two months for tish; The local storekeepers will no doubt bene fit hy (he extra spending power of the natives. FOOTPATH IMPROVEMENTS. The local authorises have improved and repaired the footpath leading to the station, and it is quite passable row where it was almost dangerous to walk some time back.
