THE TWO BRIDGES.

Hingaia and Whangamaire Creeks. Offer of £IOOO. About The Rating Areas A special meeting of the Karaka lload Board was held on August 2nd about the proposed bridges over the Hingaia and Whangamaire creeks, to bring Kaiaka into closer communication with Papakura. The chairman, Mr Batty, reported that he and Mr Willis, chairman of the Papakura Town Board, had gone as a deputation to the Premier, asking for a £ for £ subsidy, or such assistance as the Government might be able to grant. No sub3idy could bs promised yet, but Mr Batty expected that a substantial one would be given. Mr Friedlander, on behalf of the Karaka Land Company, offered to contribute £IOOO, which would reduce the amount wanted to £4200.

The Board decided to put down Karaka No. 2 Ward, or rather a part of it not yet defined, for 50 per cent, of this sum, and Papakura, Mauku and Waiuku for the balance. The actual distribution of the cost, however, it appears will rest with the Commissioner and the ratepayers of the different areas that are to be cited.

The plans for the new road to l'aerata station, the chairman announced, had been returned to the engineer, Mr Fairbtrn, for some alterations, which, were necessary before the road could be gazetted.
