TTYTIMiTiTi >IW I'M 1 ! ■li A COLUMN FOR THE PEOPLE This cohimn is " The People's Column." We invite them to express their views on all public questions and matters affecting the district. We do not identify ourselves with the opinions expressed bv our correspondents A Borough Jingle j TO THE EDITOB,] Sir,—l've often thought of writing vou a letter, And though in prose I often write, I like to rhyme much better. Your paper is a blessed thing; I like to read it thorough: And I coacede, without demur, a credit to our borough. The reports are ably written, and sometimes moat amusing, 'Specially when the Council sit«; and starts accusing. No doubt we want good drainage to make our township sweet, To take th 3 surface waters of, and leave it trig and neat. We crave for tetter lighting, and oft I sigh, alas!— At our Borough Council's meeting there's a great escape of g<»s; Oh! that we had a storage tank —I know of what I speak— The tas thatgo£s to waste that night would last us for a week. Then there's the roadir.g problem, 'tis a very bitter pill We make our road* haphazard, for either gcod or il!; We plough up clay and make it scft, then put small rretal en, Along comes heavy traffic/ and behold! the read is gone! Just scan the road that passis by the Oddfellows' Hall, When traffic comts 'twill disappear, 'twill be nn road at all. At least that's my conviction, and I'll tell you what I'll do, I'll bit jou a long shandy that the scoria will go through, And down; and up will lise the mud, acd soon the top will be A veritable puddle: those who live this thing shall see. But enough of ruaos. I want to kr.ow why vehicles at night, Are driven in atd out cf town, and never show a light? I near got run over, and my Jil'a to me is sweet, And I vowed it should net be allowsd to happen in the street. By jove the t-jwn is growing at a very rapid rate, And like our Premier co:n will ba a a credit to the State. Ihis t'.wn will gain distinction in many ways I'm sure, For it's Hill is like an Eden, it's air is feweet end pure. The name of Hill reminds me that onca to its top I went, The walk was most ei.joyable, my time was richly spent. The view from its summit filled me with glad surprise, There was a feast of beauty, for tited and hungry eyes. I've travelled north, I've travelled south, and to the east and west, And of the landscapes I have seen, I class it 'mongst the best. Ere I go into raptures, I'll finish up my rhyme, Net that I'm lackirg' matter or that I'm pressed for time. Oh, no! but I must finish. I hope you are cot vext, And if this gains approval, will continue in my r.ext. ,—I ain, etc., iNIHIL NAMELESS. Pukekohe.
