THE GUN CLUB.
Arranging For The Big
Shoot.
There were six present at a meeting of the Pukekohe Rod and Gun Club, held at the hotel un Wednesday night, Mr McGough in tte chair.
ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. Mr McCormick asked if by affiliation with the New Zealand Gun Club Association this club was thereby affiliated with the Acclimatisation Suciety? Mr Dayah siid no. The two Locies were distinct bodies. The Acclimatisation Society did not take any interest in inanimate Bhooting, while the Gun Club Association wa.i not concerned about live bird.', that was, wild birds, Of course, by net neing associated with th? Acclimatisation Society they could not get pheasants or trout But he thought that they were under the right body.
Mr McCormick paid he did rot see that much good could be gained by joining the Acclimatisation Society. SHOOTING INTO THE SUN. Mr Gardner said he had looked over the ground that morning and he did not see ho?; they could alter the ground, 'the only way he could see was to shcot towards the west in the morning and towards tns east in the evening. Mr Daysh said that at Te Aroha thosa who came late had a distinct advantage. He thought, however, that they might shoot towards the north-west.
No finality was reached. ABOUT A BALL.
In reply to Mr Gardner it was said that the proposal tu hold a ball bad been ruled out on acou.it of the expense.
Mr Gardner thought that with double tickets at 7s 6d and an extra lady 2a 6d tfcey could make it pay. He considered the estimate upon which the Club acted was too high. He reckoned the music could be got fur £4, and he figured the total expense out at £26 Eighty double tickets at 7s 6d would give £3O. He thought that a ball would be a most desirable form of entertainment.
Other members thought they should allow the question of the ball to stand over for the present. SECOND NOMINATIONS.
Mr Daysh pointed out that in the rules they had adopted no second nomination could be fhut unless the competitor took out two nominations before beginning to shoot. Other members thought it all right, as most of them would make two nominations to begin with. HANDICAPPING.
Mr W. Curtis, secretary of the Auckland Gun Club, wrote consenting to act as handicapper and referee for the big shoot on July 24th. He desired, however, to act in conjunction with the local handicapper. In wishing the "shoot" success Mr Curtis said he would do all he could to help. He could safely say that some of his Club's shooter* would compete. TREASURER, ETC.
Mr W. G. Abbott resigned as treasurer and haudicapper as he found it absoiutsly impr.asibia to attend tu the work.
The resignation was accepted with regret, and Mr Daysh was elected to the dual position. Mfssts Kennellv and Daysh were appointed to sign bank cheques on behalf of the Club.
it wes agreed that a working bee of members will be held on the ground on the Monday before the shoot su as to get the ground in order. It was decided to order 2500 pigeens and 2000 cartridges f-jr the shooting carnival. Mr Vujurich resigned his position oil the cjmmittee because of his projected departure from the district. He did so with regret, but he had unfortunately to go on account of tha wetness of the gum area in which ha had bee.i working. Expressions of regret were made at the resignation, and Mr J.
