There were pres3nt at Wednesday night's meeting of the Pukekolio Borough Council the Mayor (Mr C. K. Lawrie), Crs. Comrie, Hurley, Hamilton, Abbott, Patterson, Pollock, Bilkey and Beatty. INSPECTORS. Councillor Hurley, on behalf of the committee, recommended that the following inspectors be appointed: Tires and licenses Mr Clews; ' sanitary and building, Mr Wyatt. Regarding the pound-keeper the committee had approached Mr J. McKinney who was willing to take on the duties at a salary to be fixed. Speaking to the resolution he said that Mr Clews, in looking after tires licenses, would be protecting his own roads, whilst Mr Wyatt, in the course of his ordinary duties, would come into touch with the sanitary conditions. Mr Clews expressed his willingness to undertake the duties. Mr Wyatt pointed out, that while he was willing to take up the position, it would occupy considerable time.

The Mayor thought that the looking after of the sanitation should be left to the Health Department. Crs Patterson and Abbott disagreed with the Mayor. That portion of the repoit referring to the inspectors was adopted. In regard to the appointment of a pound-keeper it was decided that Mr McKinney be offered the position, the pound committee to fix the salary. PUBLIC POUND. Cr. Bilkey reported that the committee favoured the reserve at the Power House as tho most suitable site. It was decided to erect a pound as soon as possible on the Power House reserve, the Pound Committee to determine the location. LIGHTING. After Cr. Cr. Hurley: It was a boy who rang the boll. The Mayor: It seems we must pay it. Cr. Patterson : I move it be paid. It' 6 no good wastirig time over long discussions.

Cr. Abbott seconded the resolution, which was carried. AN OLD TROUBLE

At the previous meeting the Council received a letter from Mr Morrow asking what steps they were going to take to prevent water being drained on to his property. This matter has been before the Council previously and it was decided to ask Mr Morrow if he could make any suggestions to overcome the difficulty.

The following reply was read. " In regard to the deviation of the road, lam not agreeable to dispose of the land for same. The water could be taken across the land in pipes (about 18in. diameter) the distance would be 5 chaius. I would be glad if the Council would again visit the place, so that tliey can see the amount of silt that has been deposited on the land, and at the same time might devise a scheme to get over the trouble." Cr. Bilkey said it would be no use putting in pipes as they would fill up. The only way out of it was to take the water down Queen street. Decided that the foreman report at next meeting. LIBRARY. Hurley considered it would bo a good idea as it would have the effect of purifying the water. It was decided to ask the opinion of the Engineer who is to report on the water supply.
