ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

NEWMARKET v. PUKEKOHE. Pukekohe was defeated on Saturday by Newmarket, at the Recreation Ground, by •) goals to nil. Playing- with the wind behind them Newmarket kept thing's fairly busy in the first-half, end scored two goals. In the second-half the wind abated, and play was more even. Securing a weak goal kick, Appleby, the Newmarket centre forward, rushed through and gave his team a further lead with an unstoppable shot. For Newmarket the right back and centre forward did great work, and it was no doubt due to their untiring elforls that victory was secured for their side. For Pukekohe the backs had an off day, playing far liplow their usual standard. Bellingham, in the half-hack line, gave a great display, tackling successfully and placing the hull wed every time. The forward line also showed great improvement, their "first time'' passing being very good, although they had distinctly hard luck with their shots.
