Lawiie), Crs Comrie, Bilkcy, Abbott, Beatty, Patterson, Pollock, Huiley and Hamilton, FIRE BRIGADE The Cammittei reported:-"We are of the opinion that the File Brigade, with their present appliances, c.uld not successfully ccpe with a serioua outbreak of fire, and we consider that the Brigade, to be made efficient, must ba given wet practices at least once a month, and that the following extra appliances Le procuied for their use:— 350 feet extra hose, approximately, £2O; troueh for washing hose, approximately, £2; 11 uniforms at £2 10s, £27 10s, Brigade to contribute £2O towards cust of uniforms. Finally, on the motion of Cr Coffiiie, second d by Cr Pilkey, it was decided to inform Mr Roberts tnat the C uncil would supply him with water at the rate of Is 3d per gallon. RESERVOIR SHE. T> e Mayor explained that when thi reservoir wts started it was contemplated that eome 2J acres would be required. Mr Hart, as vendor, asked the Board to peg out what they reeded up to 2J acr.s. Thi', on being surveyed, was found to be ]J acres. He would like to be guided by tha Cuuncil as to what should be clone. Cr Abbott moved, and Cr Comrie seconded, That the 1J acres be taken. Cr Patterson moved, That the full amount (2{) acres be taken. They should take all they could get. The Mayor said he was doubtful if they could take the full amount now, as they had fenced in the land selected. Cr Hamilton eaid it was the Town Board's fault that they did not take the full amount. Mr Holloway, borough solicitor, said the Town Board had taken what they considered necessary and that concluded the agreement. There was no seconder to the amendment and the motion was carried, Cr Patterson dissenting. The Mayor: Cr Patterson on his own again, CORRESPONDENCE. General Manager New Zealand Railways wrote that the stonecrusher belonging to Messrs McSheen Bros, had been booked aa machinery and charged "B" class rate, and that instructions had been given to make a refund. The Hon W. F. Massey forwarded a letter from the Minister ef Railways regretting that he was unable to comply with the Council's request to hand over the land hitherto occupied by the railway station for the purpose of a recreation ground; and that it was intended ti subdivide the land into building allotments, which will be offered lor lease. Re:d, Baliey and Tole wrote objecting to the Council'a contenlion that Mr Bayly's action io incurring kgal expensa "is totally premature and un:alled for,'' and insisting that the Council pay his costs in the matter.—Decided to pay account. Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce wrote drawing the attention of the Councl ti the fact that they had not yet given the ratepayers the opportunity cf di=cussing the queeti~n tf municipal saleyard?.—lt was decided io receive the letier aid take no action at the present time. J. Pilkinglon asked the Council to consider the matter of erecting a lamp either at the corner of Harris street and Manukau road, or Harris street and the road through Mr Roulaion's property. He also requested Hie Council to mske the footpath in Harris street, which work had been sanctioned some time ago.—Left io the Works Committee with powar to act in regard to the footpath, and to hold over the matter of lamp. Tee Mayor: The Foreman says he has ordered some fine scuria for the crossing. GENERAL. It was decided to write to the Railway Department asking them to place a lamp at the entrance to East street. The Works Committee were empowered to buy a dray, two horses and a scoop. Cr Beatty asked that scoria be placed at Hickey's culvert.—Referred to Works Committee. 7he State Advances Office forwarded an application form for a loan of £350 for constructing roads in Swamp special rating area.—lt was decided tu let the matter drop 03 account of informalities in the requisition. ACCOUNTS. Accounts as follows were passed for payment:—Wages £74 10s 6d, accounts £209 0s 10d.
