PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

On Friday evening the lecal Pre:bytenars held a most enjoyable entertainment in the Public hall Lr the dud purpose of celebrating tha anniversary of the induction of the Rev. D. Madiil to the charge, and raising funds towards liquidating tSe small d*bt remaining 03 t v e manse. During tha evening a:i excell.nt prograrrm3 of mu'ical ictma and r~citatir.: s vrns rendered, the following ladies and gentlemen contributing: —Mrs Madill, Misses McNaughtoi', A3tley and Dow, the Rev. kadill, Me.-srs Stempson, Hull, Donald-rn and Coxrie. During an interval light refreshmest', which tad bien kindly provided by the ladie 7 , were handed rounl, and after t'-.ese had received ample attention, the Rev. Mr Madill, in a happy speech, referred to his pa t year's work and thanked the Drury peopla for the loyal support and many kind esse3 extended to him. In referring to ths debt on the manse he said there was an old Irish saying that it wa3 unlucky to live in a house with a debt; his housa was n:t paid far, r.ut he wa3 sura that the Drury fiiend3 wouli dJ their share towards removing the debt, Mr J. D, McNaughton, in moving a vota of thanks to those who tad so kindly and successfully furnished the programme, proposed e1 so that a hearty vota of thanks be ext;nded to Mr Madill, who as their minister had to ably and faitnfully carri d out the main duties devolving upon him. He (Mr McNaughton), was sure that Mr Madill's work had been full? recognised and appreciated by his people, and they hrpsd that he would be spared many jeera to labour among them. The programme cn'Jcd by singing "God Save the King." EUCHRE'AND DANCE. The euchre . and dance held on Wednesday evening was egain a great succcsj Miss Hogg won the ladies' first prza with 15 games. Miss Hems played off with Miss Richardson and s-cured secod. Mr B. Girdwod was the successful winner of men's first, Mr Katavich second.
