[TO THE EDITOE.I Sir,—l notice in your issue of April 4th an announcement, signed by the Clerk of the Mauku Road Board, praying that the Mauku Road District be abolished and marged into the Coun'y Council. I wish to say that the clerk has rectived no such autho, ity from the Board to Lave this notice inserted. He was instructed to take found a petition so as the Board could know the wishes ot the ratepayers on thit most important question, but has not jet reported the result to the Board. I may say it is trie wish ot the Board to rarry out out the desires of tne ratepayers, but first they should suiely be allowed to see that the signature- on the petition are fee-mine, as J underhand that some ratepayers have heard that their names are down and they have given no instructions for such to be done. 1 am. etc., S.
