1 FARMERS' PICNIC AND SPORTS. The Waiuku branch of the Farmers' Uninn held their picnic and sports on Thursday hst, in the .paddock of Mr A. M. Barriball, president of the blanch. The weather was *ll that could be desired, and as a retult fully 500 patrons put n >m appearjmoe. Under th 3 irres, a rumber of parties hart their "spread" fjr lunch and aftern on t-a, two la'ge boilers being kept goiim to supply the hot water. Peinif holiday time is is no worder the youngsters turred up in force, full provision having been made for their enj .yn.ent by Mr Hoigki;ieo k ; and Mr W. H. Smith, who attended t/i difftrent races during the day. The sports programme consisted of about 20 evrnts (not including the chil ren's races), all of which brought out a number of entries for each event, and everything passed off without a nitch. Ihe committee worked hard to n ake the affair the thoroueh success it has p-ovtd to be. Mr C. Motion and Mr A. M. Hardball filled the p fitions of judees, Mr A. Hull starter, and Mr T. Ihe affair being got up for genuine sport the professional element wai conspicuous by its absence, ard the prize money (which ran from 20s Ist and 10s 2nd, 15s and Ta 6d, 10s and 50 brought out pUnty of competitors for each event, and all wtre perfectly satisfied. TRANSFERS. Sergeant-Major -Milne, who is being transferred from Clevedon to Waiuku, made his first visit hero on Thursday io arrange matters in connection with his,duties. SergeantMajor Jameson, who nas t c en here b for some months and just got nicely M settled down, is being transferred to Hamilton. auciion Sale. Messrs J. S. rie. Montalk and Co. held an auction sale at their premises in Waiuku on Saturday Though the rain fell in torrer.ts all day there was a good attendance, who made the bidding brisk for an hour and a-half. Ihe firm were favourably impressed, and were promised every support in that town in future. EASTER SERVICES. , The Easter Day services at Holy Trinity Church were numerously attended. The decorations mre beautiful and were further enhaifted by a set of handsome crmm hillings genercusiy doontsd by one pf our faithful Chunh member. E. by the scholars I and teachers, in recognition oL||b faithful services whilst amongfla and in view of his approacning departure. Ihe presentation took the form of a prayer and hfmn book. SOIREE AND CONCERT The annual soiree and conceit in connection with Holy Trinity (Siurcb was held on East.r Monday, *nd was one o( the most sticcewlul ever given. The soiree was hJd in • the new Parish Hall, and the following ladies were rtsponsible for the beautiful spread provided, anJ also helped in various wajs to make it a success: —Mesdametf' Smith, Purchase, Welsh, Wilcox,-C. Woodward, Glass, Swain, Greenhesd, Wells, Barnarby, Hone* and England, Misses Hull, McGowan (2), Makgill, Clothier (2)," Preec«, Sedg- • wick and Swain. '1 he concert was held in tha Public Hall, which was prettily decorated with flags Bnd • evergreens. The progiamms was an excellent one and nearly every item T was encored. Sptcial piaise is due to Mr Selby, who so ably acted as accompanist. Messrs* T. Harris and • Wallace Atkinson, of Auckland, undoubtedly two of the finest artUts we have yet had in Waiuku, were much appreciated in thrir brilliant rendering of the various The concert was on the whole a success in every way.
