Town Boundaries.
BETTEK ARRANGEMENT NEEDED. The Town district boundaries con- ■ tinue to exercise the minds of I memcers of the Board. The townI ship at present is really on the j corner of its district instead cf ' being in the centre. On the west j side of the township the JJrury road ! district is only a stone's throw away. ; and although the people who live i these do all their trading and have j all their commercial and tocial ititer- ! esis in Papakura, yet their rates are paid away to Drury. The idea is to adjust the boundaries eo that Papakura will get all the rate support it should from Papakura people, which will enable the local government to be ca;ried on much more efficiently than at present. This readjustment ! of boundaries will, of course, b<: a somewhat difficult and dciieatr matter as some properties will be cut out and others taken in. COUNTY JURISDICTION. A few weeks ago a census was taken at the instigation of tin Board and it was found that in the present iown Board area ih;ie are 563 p£op|e. With a readjustment of the boundaries that number would b-. largely increased, as many moie would be taken in than would be cut out The purp,se of the census was io enable the Board to petition for exemption from the county jurisdiction. Last year the Mar.ukau County Council did not strike a rate at all, but it is to guard against what may happen in future that exemption is being applied for.
