WIRTH'S CIRCUS.

Wirth's Circus has been so much added to and modernised in recent years that the present day combination of four distinct shows in one bears but slight resemblance to the circus of a quarter of a century ago. This season the programme contains a star above stars in Hillary Long, who does everything on his head. This " Up-side-down Phenomenon," as he is termed, balances 011 his head on a trapeze bar high in the air, while he smokes a cigarette and juggles a number of balls and also pours out a glass of tempting-looking liquor which he drinks " up." 11 is concluding feat is even more sensational. This is the " Slide for life " on his head down a 90 ft wire. The Nine Bastiens are about the cleverest troupe of acrobats who have visited this country. All of one family, they range from Bastien Pere to a tiny tot of four years, and everyone is a specialist in the art of somersaulting, while Mile Bapista, a wonderfully strong girl, also supports all her brothers and sisters 011 her shoulders. There are over a score of items on the circus programme and then come the Cowboys (the real genuine article from the Wild West of America) led by Art Boden These men give a complete show in themselves and then there is a party of A ustralian and the Menagerie, making a total of four complete shows in one, which will appear in Pukekohe for one night only on Saturday, March Ist.
