OTAUA DRAINAGE.

Board's Monthly Meeting. The mo.-.tbly meeting of the Otaua Drainage Board was held in the Ball on January 20th, all the members being present. ABOUT AN OUTLET. Messrs Deed and Mellsop reported having inspected the outlet from Mrs Holmes'* place. After the Board bad discussed the matter Mr Mellsop proposed, and Mr Deed seconded, That na action be take.—Carried. NEW DRAINS. In regard to the new drains to foe dug nearß. Hull's the Committee reported having had specifications drawn out and tenders ii.vittd for the work. Only two tenders were received. One was from E. Holmes for 28 chains at £2 10s per chain. The other was from F. E. Hall for the whole lot, about 42 chains, at £2 5s per chain, wbich was accepted. RATEPAYERS' PETITION. A petition was received from ten ratepayers asking the Board to divide the water in the Otaua creek, bringing a portion down past Mr R. Neil's house into the main road drain. Mr West proposed, and Mr Mellsop seconded, That legal advice be obtained as to what drainage rights there are in connection with the properties interested, also the liability the Board will incur in acceding to the request of the petitioners; and if-there is liability, to get an agreement indemnifying the Board to be signed by the ratepayers interested.—Carried. FINANCE. Accounts totalling £l6 3s 2d were passed tor payment. CLEARING OTAUA CREEK. It was resolved that H. Priest be empowered to take on men to clean the Otaua creek from the river right up; also that the clerk call tenders for cutting and shovelling the various drains. TEN PER GENT. PENALTY. It was proposed by Mr Mellsop, seconded by Mr West, Thst ten per cent, penalty be charged on all rates not paid by February 15th, 1913. CLASSIFICATION LIST. fc The classification list was then A considered, ard the Board decided to rescind all motions passed at the special meeting. A fresh list was agreed on, after which the meeting adjourned till January 22nd to enable the clerk to have the new list ready for the Chairman to sign. At the adjourned meeting of the > Board, on January 22nd, the classii- fication list was read, and Mr West I proposed, and Mr Deed seconded, I That it be signed by the Chairman I and left at the punt office for inspecI tion, according to the Act.
