THE TUAKAU SCHOOL.
We were glad (o receive the report on Friday showing the very excellent record of passes obtained by the Tuakau School. During the recer.t controversy in connection with the proposed centralisation of tha schools it was strongly argued that better educational facilities would be provided if a Central School, with better equipments and with a bigger staff, were established. The passes gained prove conclusively that with the conditions as they are the Tuakau children are receiving a splendid training. From the Hamavill • School, too, it is shorn that .out of the three pupils who sat, two gained their proficiency certificates. This, again, is a very creditable performance While we do net wish to enter the school controversy at this stage, we cannot refrain from suggesting that these good results were apparently gained not because of the conditions that prevail, but in sp;t? of them. And if a Central Scho >1 is not likely to be established in the near future it is to be hoped that the people concerned will do their utmost to have improvements effected h the teaching cor.ditious of the individual schools. Tuakau is fortunate in having a head-teacher of Mr Graham's attainments, and parents and committee woulj b2 well advised to assist him in his good work in every possible way.
