PUBLISHER'S CHAT.
In the old days, before the newspaper came, shopkeepers had to suffer having tneir window panes plastered with notices about forthcoming social functions and meetings, losts, founds, and all sorts of similar announcements. This method of advertising was ineffective at ils btst because only those who happened to pass and to read the notices knew anything of them. With the advent of the newspaper, the conditions changed. A method of advertising was introduced whereby a very much wider circle of people could be apprised and the paper was always by them to refer to the date of tho appointments. Do you say that an advertisement costs money ? The advertisement always pays for itself! Which would you prefer? Thirty people present at Is. a head and NO advertising costs, or fifty people present with 10s advertising costs? Apart from the fact that die store-keeper does not like to have his window disfigured with notices, it PAYS you to advertise in the paper. Turoughout this district the " Times " is undeniably the best advertising medium-.
