THE TELEPHONE SERVICE.
The agitation set up by the Chamber of Commerce for a better telephonic s«".vi'!o between Pukekohe ami Auckland has borne good fruit. The IVstmasicr-Gonoral lias written to tlic President of the Chamber saying that a second metallic circuit is now | open for bureau purp >ses. This has been arranged by joining the metallic linos on to a pair of wires at a cable j bos at Parnell, and will provide a > i temporary service until the wires are i ! taken into AueHand on their proper | poles. The Postmaster-General ex- | plains that the delay in taking the linos to Auckland was cause 1 by the Department having to wait until the railway deviation works were completed. The Chamber is to be congratulatod upon having rendered another service to the people of this district and it may now be expected J 'hut the long and vexatious delays in " getting " Auckland will be ma'crially minimised.
