i Constable W:>d:, who was shot in I th? abdomen by a striker at Wcihi j<n Tuesday evening, is well-known in I his district. He was employed for about twj years at the Ostrich Farm, arcl left from dure to join the police force. He is a single man, 2f> years of aac, a son of Mr Charles Wade, a fanner and grazier at Whitford, near Howick. He is a memcer ef the Wellington police force, <*nd is ono of the most popular policemen in the southern city. A splendidly developed man, G feet in height and weighing about lOst, he is 3n enthufia:tic cricketer. Last year he played in sei.ior cricket matches in Wellington. Constable W;d'j is a brother to Mrs Buchan, f Pukekohe. He was or,e ot tl . first membera of Loyal Excelsior Lodge, 1.0.0. F., Pukekohe. His friends in this locality will be pleased to learn that the wourd was not at any time considered likely to have fatal results, and his condition, at lat-et advices, was not giving any anxiety.
