DISTRICT NEWS.
[From Our Own Correspondents]. WAIUKU. [By our Travelling Kepresuntativc.] STREET IMPROVEMENT NEEDED. Now that the long-promised railway is authorised it is to be hoped the tradespeople and settlers generally will combine with the object of having some very necessary street improvements commenced, and try ar,d have the township up-to-date by the time the railway i 3 through. Kerbing and channelling, and a uniform alignment for the footpaths, is badly needed, and modern street improvements should be taken in hand. It is certain the tradespeople will hav3 to consent to a considerably increased rate to give these matters proper attention, but surely a prosperous district like this can well afford it. Outside the township the* roads are splendid—far superior to Pukckohe, where such large loans have been expended—but up-to-date streeting is severely needed in the township, which hom this out 1 expect to see develop rapidly. AN UNSATISFACTORY BOUNDARY. The boundary between VVaiuku and Waipipi Road Boards being down the> middle of th 1 mam stre:t h not a gwi plan, and 1 feel sure if th: township wss wholly in one or th" other district some considerable difference would be noticed. ENTERPRISING FARMERS. 'two of our most enterprising fanners, Me-srs K. J. Fenwick and J. Barribal', have just purchased ;.n up-to-date 20 h.p. oil ir.ctor and combined two-b?g chaff cutter and hay press. The turnout, which runs into £IOOO, will confine its operations to the Waiuku d strict. EARLY MORNING COACH. A very necessary advancement for the district, which should he undertaken by some of our coaching proprietors, and which should tea profitable investment, wculd be the ruiming of a coach three days in the week to Pukekohe to meet the first train fir Auckland, This, I am assured, would have the hearty support of the residents and surrounding settlers. Business Chats. WAIUKU TIMBER YA«D AND POWER JOINERY WORKS. Some new and useful machinery has just been installed hj/ Mr J. P. Dromaioo! in his new workshop in Kirk s're't, A large Haigh and Co.'s plainer of the latest type, which is capable o! dressing timber up to 12 inches by G inches, three sides at a time, is ; ow in operation, and all facilities are provided for running flooring, matching, skirting and mouldings. A large circular and «'ood saw is being fixed, which should be of great assistance to the i.usinevs. The workshop a! o contains a Barnes' No. 4 weed worker, which •jpera'es cross, rips, trenching and rabbeting saws, and is a very ha-dy machine in many other ways. The machinery is driven by a splendid 7A h.p. Ilornsby benzine engine, which is working in a highly satisfactory manner. Mr Diomgool carries out building operations in all parts of the district, ani soma attractive and substantial buildings of his erecting may be seen in a'id around the township. #-
