itius a ccrrespondei.t: —"lt is only natural to assume that since herds vary in t 'jeir quantity of milk from day today, they do likewise in their test. Prior to the commencerrent of Herd-Testing Associations, suppliers generally regarded this truory ts a fallacy, but cow experience teacheH t.:at tome of their pet cows vary anywhere from four to ten points from iiionth to menth without any apparent teason; in fact, one man showed me a variation in a ow of 17 points from September to October. With the object of finding out precisely bow herds go along from day to day, during Octuber I selected 4 diffeient herds—viz., those of Messrs T. Brownlee, Dale, Houlston, and S. McNally, ar.d I think 1 can fairly claim fo r these people that they have up-to-date herds. I have taken Mr i. Browr.lee's herd as the ideal one, purebred Jerseys on rich pa?Jurts. and—the most important point—the herd is entirely under his own supervision. Appended are the results:— Mr T.
