WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
The Tuakau Convention. On the 23rd instant the Tuakau district, W.C.T.U. held their first annual convention. At the evening session encouraging reports were read by the delegates from Pukekohe and Papakura. , An instructive paper was read by Mrs Bendely on Union work and its broader views. At the " At Home" in the afternoon Mrs Saunders gave an interesting address on her experiences of slum work. Mr Spragg dealt with the bare majority question, after which the following resolution was unanimously passed: "This Convention of the district W.C.T.U. in Tuakau, recognising the injustice of the three-fifths handicap under which we work, approves of the democratic vote campaign inaugurated by the New Zealand Alliance, and pledges itself to heartily co-operate in the movement." In the evening Rov.M. Turner spoko on the evils caused by the liquor traffic, and Mr Speight followed with an address on " How we can help to put it down." Musical items were rendered at both meetings, also recitations by the children in the evening.
