THE MILK YIELD.
Big Increase this Season. Production at Pukekohe.
It h pleasing to i arn that a big increase his taken place in this year's supply nf butter-fat. At the Pukekohe factory, for the week ending October 19th, 9 ton 318 cwts. 2 qrs. of butter were manufactured daily, rhis ia ahead nf the corrcspit ding Week lait yea? by 1 ton 14 cwt, when the daily output was 8 tons 4 cwt.
At tha preient time the daily output ia bigger than it was at the flush of last season. The second week in December wai the bigge t hst y-ar, when 9 tins 16 cwt. 3 qrs. wis the daily output, This week i* is expected that over 10 tons a day will be manufactured. Present prodjetion appears to he tin more remarkable when it is remembered that there are still five or six weeks to go before the height of the seison will be reached It is expected that" wh-n th'B perbd is reached 13 toni a da> will be turned out.
The foregoing returrs only deal with the Pukekoha factory. At the thrte establishirients tun by the Association tne present daiiy manufacture is between 26 and 30jons. where the fat comes • FROM. The fat which comes to the Pukekohe factory is drawn from a wide field eii.brau'ng Kohi Kohe. past Waiuku, on the west; Papa tot toe on the nnrlh; and Maramarua, below Mercer, on the south. THE PASTURES. Although the season has been troubhsoms from a wea'her point of view, the gra;s conditions throughout the area covered hy this factory pre on the whole satisfactory, and Her Majesty the Cow is maki;ga royal response to the labours of dai ymcn>'
Shipments to England. In view of tin; local increase it is interesting to note that a shipment co n prising IT. 000 boxes, equivalent to -*) SO tons, of Auckland butter, is to bo taken this week by the steamer Aruwa, at present loading for London. To complete the Arawa's shipment, theCorinna will take 3000 boxes, or 75 tons, for transhipment at Wellington.
Latest advices received from the High Commissioner's office stated that the price of New Zealand butter in the London markets was 124s per cwt. (2 box as), s j that, unless there is a slump in the market, the Arawa's shipment will bo worth £52,700.
The correct Hiding shipment last season was much less than the present one, but the prices ruling at tlio time were much higher. The Mukiun will also take a large ship neat, i!u 9335 boxes, or 233 tons, to Vancouver. The total number of boxes shipped already this season amounts to 50,570, or 1411 tons 2cwt., as against 41,281 boxes, 1032 tons 2cwt., sent forward in the corresponding shipment la-t year.
A total of 150 crates of cheese will also be smt by the Aiawa, but there is little d'.ing in the cheese market. The regular supply of butter is c uniiig i i fast, and if the line weather now prevailing is maintained, there is every prospect that this season will eclipse last year's, though that was the record one for the Dominion. Indications suggest that the present shipment will be only one ol a long series, and also that good prices will be the rule.
