MAUKU.
PRESBYTEKIAN CHURCH CONCERT. Notwithstanding the weathtr on Wednesday nil . kohe Choir jjurneyed out to and gave one of their popular concerts, the proceeds from which were in aid of the church fence funds. The Rtv. S. Nixon, in apologising for their late attendance, likened the road from Pukekohe 10 Mauku to the "Rocky road to Dublin," and asked tne audience to excuse any one who might be slightly cut of ''tune," as the drive had done it. A lengthy programme was rendered, many of the items being highly appreciated. Items rendered by Mtsdames Pilkington and H. E. Smith called forth special applause, and Mr A. W. Ycung'g singing of "Loch Lomond" received quite an ovation. Mr James Finhy proposed a heariy v>.te of thanks to the choir fur their attendance, and made sp.cial mention of the willing, cheerful assistance cte Church always reived from the conductor, Mr Divyr, and the accompanist, Misa Penman. This was carried by vigorous applause, and Mr Davys suitably responded. Mr W. R. Wrigbt, secretary, is to be congratulated on tha success of the entertainment, by which the fence funds will benefit to the amount of soma £7 or £8 cdd. Yoarg, encore, "Ringtailed Coon"; song, " file Carnival." Mr H. E. Smith; eor.g, "Tfie Admial's Broom," Mr T. Walker, encore "Twi, Twi, l'wilighi song, "Queen of Angels," Mr W. Jones, encore "When the Subset Turns the Ocean Blue to Gold"; chorus, "0, Who Will O'er the Downs," choir; gong, "Lily of Laguna," Mr 4. D. Young, encore, "Deathless Army"; duet, "Oh Wert Thou in the Cauld Blast," a Pilkington and H. E, Smith, encored; song, "The Veteran's Song," Mr W. Jones; quartette, "The Old Banjo," Messrs J. Roulston, Z Blake, W. Jones, A. D. Young, encored; song, "The Village Blacksmith," Mr T. Walker, encore "Simon the Cellerar"; song, "Rest Thee, Sad Heart," Mrs J. Pilkington; anthem, "How Excellent," choir. FARMERS' UNION. The monthly meeting of the Mauku branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union wis held in the Patumahoe tlali on Monday, 21st inst. The president, Mr W. Finiay, presided over good attendance of members. It was decided to hold the dinner about next mmth's full moon, and to submit dates to Hon. W. F . Massey for_ his consideration as his attendance is particularly desired. A great deal of discussion took pkee r-garditg the scheme to rate this ditsrict for the proposed bridges over 'lingaia and Glasson's creeks. Mr S. Pilgrim, Mr Cuff, Mr Finlay and several members spoke in strong terms of protest agair.st being rate', as they considered the bridges would be of absolutely no use to residents ot Mauku or Patumahoe. It was unanimously resolved to instruct the secretary to write to the Mauku Road Board call ing their attention to the matter against which action the members strongly protest. Mr V. Clark was unanimously elected as a member.
