A reminder is given of the social, promoted bv the Church of England Ladies' Guild, to be hold in the Oddfellows' llall to-morrow evening. Polling to-day was vory quiet at the by-election for a borough councillor. The wet weathor and muddy roads doubtless kept a nuinbor away. Uo to mid-day only some .'35 had voted.

Messrs Thorno, Campbell and Thorno have opened a branch in I'ukekohe and commenced business as liarristors, solicitors, and notaries public in Webster's new building, King-street.* The final meeting of the Pukekohe dancing class took the form of a long night, on Monday oveniug, in the Oddfellows' , Hull. The social was very successful. Miss Pullen supplied the music.

On Friday the All Star Pictures attracted a largo audience at the Masonic Hull. To-night the star film will be " Thrown to the Lions," a dr;yna of the early Christian days in the times of Nero. On Saturday Mercer will be visited.

Messrs Northcroft, Feo:ny an Robertson, barristers and solicitors who have offices at Hamilton and Ngaruawahia, have decided to open a branch at Pukekohe, under tho management of Mr J. Robertson.

Mr H. D. Dausey, who has been the engineer in charge of the railway works in progress in Pukekohe, has been transferred to Wanganui. During his stay hero Mr Dansey became very popular and his departure is geneially regretted. Amongst tho items on the Estimates submitted to Parliament last week are £250 for repairs to Pukekohe police ftation, and £I9OO for tho Waiuku post oflice. We presumo the £'2so is for tho work douo last year; we hope the £I9OO will be spent this year and that Waiuku will havo its post oflice.

Messrs Cooper and Curd havo just completed to the order of Mr A. E. W ilkinson a milk float built on the most up-to date lines. Differing in some respects from tho customary type provision has been made for the growth of business, accommodation being provided for two 20-gallon cans. Facilities are also provided for carrying jars of cream. Tho body of tho cart is painted cream, wheels and uiuior parts red, name boards led with inscriptions in gold. \ir Wi ikinson expressed himself as being veiy pleased with his fioat " as good as anything I can got anywhere." Messrs Cooper and Curd are just completing a new waggon for Mr T. Hurley.

The Chamber of Commerce last night dealt with a lot of important business. The President (Mr Webster) took occ.isiou to deny a statement by the Mayor that he (Mr Webster) had refused to give information concerning the proposed grant for the recreation ground in Piikckuhe. Mr Webster said that
