The Pukekohe and Waiuku Times PUBLISHED TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1912. "We nothing extenuate, nor set down aught in malice." THE NEW MAYOR.
We desire to congratulate Cr. C. K. Lawrie upon his unanimous olection, nt the hands of the Council, to bo Mayor of Pukekohe. Since becoming a Councillor, Cr. Litwrio has spout a lot of time in working for the advancement of the borough, and in his higher office as Mayor ho will no doubt continue his enthusiastic ellort. This is tho first Borough Council upon which the new Mayor has had experience, but his long practice as chairman of School Committees, and as a member of Eoad Boards, fthow Committeos and similar institutions, should enable him to carry out bis work as Mayor with credit to himself and advantage to the borough. The offico of Chief Magistrate falls upon him at a difficult time. Loans have been sanctioned by the people but the money has yet to be secured. Big roading works have been decided on, affairs in connection with the waterworks have to be cleared up, earnest consideration will have to bo given to the sanitation of the town, the protection of the footpaths against straying horses and cattlo will have to be faced by the establishment of a poivid, a new sot of by-laws should bo made without delay, and a number of other mattors clamour for attention. The work in hand and in prospect is sufficient to tax capacity and energy to the utmost, and the borough lias cause to congratulate itself upon the cheerful way in which the Mayor and Comic'' are undertaking their arduous and responsible civic duties.
