AKA AKA PLAINS.

At the last social here music for dancing was supplied by Miss Cooper (of Auckland), Messrs Hammond and Deed. It is very pleasing to note how well these dances are patronised, which is chiefly due to the oxcellent dancing floor and the sociahlenees of those who attend them. The effect of the recent heavy rains has been severely felt in this district, tht? land in many places being partially submerged, and the position has been made considerably worse by the very big tides during the past week, that on Friday week, according to the old sottlers, being the biggest in their experience. The water in many parts was spilling over the banks of the creek and drains on to the land. A very nico party was given by Mrs Hull recently, when the neighbours were invited and a very pleasant evening was passed away with songs, recitations. and dancing.
