WAIUKU.

Cricket Club. The annual general meeting was hold on September 6. There was a ginxl attendance, and the meeting was most enthusiastic. The following officers were elected for the coming seasoi:—Patron, Hon. W. F. Massey; president, Dr. Aldred; vice-presidents, Messrs R. T Reid, Gribble, Baruaby, C. J. Barriball, Mearns, W. Barriball; captain, M. Aldred ; vice-captain, Dr. flowdou ; secretary and treasurer, A. James; committee, the captain, vicecaptain and Messrs Osborne, Bishop, and R. James; delegates to the Association, Mes-srs Osborne, Bish»p and R. James. The subscription for members was fixed at 10s and for Thursday afternoon players ss. Tho secretary was instructed to write to tie various clubs in Auckland which had visited Wniuku before and arrange matche?. Dr. Ilowden and Mr Aldred wore appointed coaches at practice. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr R. J. Harris, the retiring captaiu, fir his pas'; services.

The Hounds.

The Waiuku branch of the Pukuranga hounds met on Tuesday 17th, übout 60 followers being present. A start was made just outside the township on Mr Martin Barriball's property whero a fine hare was put up. The lead went through Mr John McNaughten's projrerty where some good wire jumping was done. Going on to Mr Bariiball's property auother hare was put up. The rest of the a()ernoon was spent in hunting through Mr T. McGowan's farm. Thete were no kills.

On Thursday the second day's hunting came off and proved one of the the best day's sport ever held in the district. Betwet nSO and 60 followers joined iu, and by kind permission a start was made on Mr Kelland's estate at Waipipi. After a l »out three hours' run and a spell all made for Mr T. Lewis' residence where they were most hospitably entertained. A run was then made over Mr J. Horrold's farm. Some stiff fences were negotiated during tho afternoon and several riders performed acrobatic feats without seriously hurting themselves. After two short runs over Mr Herrold's property a start for home was made. Though there were no kills everyone seemed to enjoy the outing and it was deemed a really satisfactory day. On Thursday evening tho annual yuet Club ball eventuated. There was a crowded attendance and proved a very enjoyable affair. The Hall was tastefully decorated. Excellent music was provided by Messrs Chandler (cornet), H. Webster (violin), and Mrs Barriball (piano).

Becently a local resident found a black swan wandering about disabled through being beaten about in the rough storm It was taken care of and is apparently recovering from its injury. MrGrierson, Inspector of schools, is visiting the various districts around Waiuku examining the pupils
