WAIKATO DRAINAGE SCHEME.
We nothing e.vtnimtc, nor wl down aui/ht in malice."
Notiiinc dolinite Ins yet Leon settled us to the future of tlio Waikato drainago schonie. Ono thing, however, is practically certain, and that is that tlio amending Mill promoted by tlio l>oard will not bo proceeded with this .session. In all probability a Commission will be appointed to enquire fully into the scheme, and recommend as to whether it should bo abandoned or not. The respective representatives of the Waikato River 15oard and of the objectors nut the Local Hills Committee on Wednesday last and went pretty fully into matters. After heaiing evidence and arguments for and against tiie 15ill, and the Miggos-ted amendment.", the iieaiing was adjourned tili Friday to enable the parties to confer, and, if possible, come to an agreement. Two meetings w-rc accoidingly held and tin> points at i-sue fully distii>sei!, but no compromise acceptable to both sides was arrived at. On Friday morning the repoit of the engineer sent by Government to review the scheme was available, and the engineer was present to support his views. After both parties had stated the minimum they were prepared to accept the Committee deliberated in private, but up to the present have not reporte 1 to the House. It is expected, however, that they will do so to-day (Wednesday), and in our next issue we hope to be in a position to give full infonmrtioii.
