AT THE BOROUGH COUNCIL
WEEKLY MEETING. There were present the Major (Mr W. Dunn) Crt Comjie, Berriman, Johns, Pollock, Bilkey, Hamilton, Hart and Lawrie. Cr Lawrie reported that he had had some metal pat on West-road, Halliday's comer, and Manakau-road.— Action confirmed. It was decided that the matter of the watertable near . the Anglican < Church be left to the Works Commit- ] tee. Mr J. J. Morrow complained of damage being done to the estate of the late Mr Morrow bv flood water. It was resolved that Mr Morrow be written to saying that the property had been viewed by the Council, ana asking what particular damage had been complained of. The action of the Committee in appointing Mr Clewes to be foreman was approred. Cr Lawrie suggested putting down fascines in the street -near Hickey's bridge.—Referred to Works Committee. Ricriatiojc Gboitcd. The Cleric reported that he had interviewed the late chairman of the Town Board regarding the position of the subsidy for the reoreation ground. A deputation from the Town Board had been told that the £ for £ would be abolished and a grant of £750 was promised. Cr Hamilton: Had the Town Board ever approached anyone for a section ? Cr Berriman stated they had, but it was doubtful if the offer still held good. The Mayor: What shall we do ? Bhall we trr to get the grant re-vOted ? Cr Hamilton: Bettet get the land first. Cr Johns moved that an application be made for the £750. The Mavor said Mr Massey would be in Pukekohe shortly, and they could see him about it. He moved that the matter be held in abeyance and that he see Mr Massey or the Minister in charge about the matter. He deprecated attempting to approach anybody for land till they had the money. Cr Hamilton seconded this resolution, which was carried. Mml. The Mayor brought forward the matter of procuring metal and erecting a crushing plant. Cr Comrie moved that steps be taken to see if the metal at Paerata could be obtained and to ascertain the cost of erecting a crusher. Cr Bilkey seconded the resolution. The Mayor pointed out they would have to metal the road right through or bring the metal by rail—as dear a process as bringing it from Newmarket. Cr Berriman suggested since thev were opening a new road through Hamilton's property thsy might tap a quarry on Mr Motion's property. The Mayor suggested to Cr Comrie that he add to his motion that a Committee comprising Crs Comrie, Bilkey, Berriman, Hamilton and Pollock be set up to report. The motion was carried. CouussroirDKKci. Permission was granted to F. Perkins and Co. to erect a brick building on their section in King-street. The Government Advances Department wired: " Fresh resolution making fresh rate for the 10 per cent, additional advance of the £ 12,500 loan must be passed."—The Council could not seetne necessity and it was decided to forward the telegram and full particulars (Crs Comie, Lawrie and Town Clerk to draw up letter) to Mr Massey. A number of residents in Harrisstreet applied to have " chips " put on the footpath and for a crossing at the end of the street.—Granted. Ekoiithzr's Report. Arising out of the engineer's report the Council deoided to procure another pump for the well, which the Agent agrees to take back when finished with; to sell the two small planner pumps; that 4} chains of draid between the existing pipe and the centre of the gully be maae. The Clerk of works was instructed to remove all pipes laying on people's property.
