Looking After the Farmers' Interests. The monthly meeting of the Pukekohe branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Libraiv on Saturday. Owing to inclement weather there was only a quorum present. A letter was received from the Provincial Secretary, Mr Sclimitt. thanking the Pukekohe branch for invitation to the Conference to discuss the grading of pioduce, and stating that the Auckland Executive had appointed Captaiu Colbeck and himself to attend. He also asked if lie could invite members from the surrounding branches to attend. Mr T. Hogan proposed, and Mr- R. Johns seconded, that Mr Sclimitt be instructed to invite members from surrounding branches to attend —Cairied The Secretary explained that he had met the manager of che Ruakuva Experimental Farm at the Waikato Winter Show, and in conversation with him had leaiiud that the Agricultural Department was prepared to forward various varieties of potatoes for testing their se'tatr'ity iu this district : the growers getting them free, and being or'v required to forward the results of the various experiments to the Department. After a prolonged discussion on the various phases of this question, Mr T Hogan moved, That the Secretin y write to the Depal tment for all infoimation relating to the vaiioiis trials conducted on the experimental farms in the growing of potatoes, and to have all the information at next meeting. This was seconded by Mr Scl 'aepfor and carried A letter was received from the Auckland Executive asking what this branch thought of establishing farm laborers' homes on 20 acre sections in counti.v districts. It was resolved that while this braueli approved of the scheme it vvoi'd never apply to Pukekohe, where many of the potato and union growers were already making a ' : ving on sma"er areas than twenty acres.
