The first annual meeting of the newly-formed Franklin Licensing Committee met in Pukekohe on Friday last. Present:—Mr F. V. Frazer, B.M. (chainuan\ Messrs C Motion, W. Richardson. J. -D. Chalmers, J

\ .Schlaepter and P. McGovern. \ Transfer of the license of the PukeN kohe Hotel was granted from J. J. ftrahSu. to W. G Abbott The Clerk .Constable explained that considerable alterations were being di ide to the premises, and they wtre ■ •uite -at>tit*l the hotel when finished would be i:i up-to-date order Lie-vise transfer of the Kentish Hot 1. Waiuku, was granted from C. T. Molloy ;o R. T.Jleid.—The Health Department reported that certain enumerated improvements were reauired. The Chairman said that in le past, with respect to Health Department's hotel reports, the practice had been to refer the matter to the licensees with the intimation that if the required improvements were not 'effected by the next annual meeting, - the matters would be embodied in the police report. The solicitor for the owners ventured the opinion that the Department was insisting upon a state of perfection never before expected of country hotels. A condition was attached to the granting of the license that the owners would confer with the local constable and the'two Waiuku members in order to determine what improvements should be effected. The police report was favourable respecting the Marine hotel (Howick), Railway hotel (Drury), Papakura ho- . Tel (Papakura), and the Bay View hotel (Miranda), and the licenses were renewed.

It was repotted that additional accommodation was being provided at the Mauku hotel, Patuinahoe, and the license was renewed. The license of the Globe hotel, Papakura, rtas also renewed subject to the stable floor being properly made.
