Waiuku.
A pretty wedding took place at Holy Trinity Church, on Wednesday, 15th inat., when Miss Elsie Sylvia Williams, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Williams, was married to Mr. Edward Holmes. The Rev. E. A. Yaughan officiated. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Garnet Williams, wore a costume of white Btriped silk voile, with silk rose trimmings and veil and orange blossoms, and carrying a shower boquet. Her bridesmaid was Miss Elsie Simmons, of ' Devonport, who was attired in a white costume with a large hat. Afterwards the guests were entertained at breakfast at Mr Saml. Holmes' residence, " Stony Creek." The wedding cake was quite a work of art, and was designed and made by the bride's father. The Rev. Oliver Kimberley, of the Church Missionary Society, Nelson, visited WaiUku on Saturday, and gave a lantern lecture in Church of England illustrating minion work in Africa. On Sunday morning at Holy Trinity Church the Vicar preached a powerful sermon on missionary work, and in the evening the Eev 0. Kimberly preached, urging the claims of foreign missions, especially the need for medical work in Persia, where the late Rev Dr Stuart (formerly Bishop of Waiapu), laboured until his death. There was a large congregation, and a good offertory was taken up. An old anchor, probably lost from some brigantine many years ago, was fished up from the bottom of the sea off Toro Point recently. It is quite encrusted with barnacles and growth.
