FARMERS' UNION.
The Pukekohe Branch. A meeting of the committee was held in Mr C. K. Lawrie's office on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs Schlaepfer (President), Wilkinson, Lawrie, Johns, Appleby, Hogan and Hamilton (Secretary). Mr Hamilton mentioned a railway trouble. There is a loop line round the goods-shed, and when carts are at the back doors loading thoy prevent other carts from getting in or out. He suggested that a door should be put at each end of the shed, which would only cost £3. —It was pointed out that the shed would soon be shifted, to which Mr Hamilton replied that he thought they would h;vve to use it where it was for another year.—lt was decided to vefer the matter to tho Chamber of Commerce. The remits for consideration at last week's Provincial Conference in Auckland were discussed. Dealing with noxious weeds, Buch as blackberries, a remit was altered, ou Mr Johns' motion, indicating that the aim should be to enforce the prevention of flowering and seeding, not to attempt to compel eradication, which was practically impossible. A remit from Auckland read: " That the Railway Department substitute the present system of despatching goods to flag stations on stated days only by an every-day delivery, especially with small parcels." Members expressed the opinion that tho present system was tho best, and was working very well. The Local Government JJill came in for some stiff criticism (especially the voters' qualification clauses).
