Ladies and gbntlemkn,— I beg to most sincerely thank you for the very great honour you have conferred upon /ne by electing me as the first Mayor of our Town, and to assure you that if I do not prove myself worthy of your confidence it will be for lack of ability, rather than the lack of will to serve you faithfully and efficiently. I wish also to assure you that from this day forward, apart from any past considerations whatever, I will esteem it a pleasure and privilege to be considered alike the servant and friend of every man woman and child in the district. In the formation oi the Borough we have reached what may be termed our adult stage, and should at once and for ever put behind us any childish or selfish actions, differences, or dissentions; or, if we must refer to them at all, that it may be only in the endeavour to learn from their mistakes how best to avoid similar errors in the future. I would respectfully urge that each and every one of you may join hands with our Councillors and Mayor in working whole-heartedly and unitedly for the Public Good and the future Prosperity of our Town and District. If we do this, with the many natural advantages of soil, climate and position which we possess, our future prospects should be bright indeed; and in the distant future our successors will have no need to be ashamed of those who first founded the Borough of Pukekohe. Tours faithfully, William Dunn. THE FRANKLIN LICENSING DIBTEICT.
