Ou} Residents Pass Away. I regret Jo have to record the death of Mr' Arthur Fitchett, which took place Tuesday, 30th April, after a long illness. Mr Fitchett was for almost i six years Post Master in Waiuku and } retired about two years ago from the i service. On that occasion he was presented by residents of the district with an easy chair and a beautiful illuminated address, as a mark of the great esteem in which he was held. Mr Fitchett was a man of sterling character and a very bright and cheerful disposition, which endeared him to everyone, lie was a staunch worker in the Methodist Church and acted as local preacher. The funeral was attended by a large following on Thursday afternoon. The first part of the service was held in Wesley < Jhurch when the Revs. Blamires and Laybourn officiated. Mr Fitchett leaves three sons (one of whom is a missionary in South Africa). Another old resident died on 30th inst at Remuera. I rofer t> Mr Robert Bent, one ->f the pioneers of Waiuku. He was one of the best known residents and had resided here with his wife and family from the earliest days. H« retired from farming some eight years ago and went to live at Remuera. The deceased was in his 87th year and was predeceased by liis wife some 15 years. H«> leaves two daughters and four sons. Mr Bmt was a staunch churchman and was for a number of years vestryman at Holy Trinity, Waiuku. The fuueral took place from that church on Friday afternoon, when there was a representative gathering of old residents to pay their last respects to one who was a good neighbour and cdonist.
