A little excitement was caused amongst the diners who attended the annual dinner in connection with the Pukekohe Town Band, in Mrs Hawke's dining rooms. A photographer was present who wished to take a flash-light photo of the gathering. When all was ready the magnesia flare refused to perform until several lighted matches had been thrown into the powder, and when it did eventually go off it blazed to the paper decorations. Willing hands soon pulled the decorations to the floor where the flames were speedily stamped out, and in a few minutes the proceedings were continued as merrily as ever.
