BRIGADE AND BOARD.
Matter of Finance.
The financial relations between the the Pukekohe Volunteer Fire Brigade were discussed at the last meeting of the Board.
The matter was introduced by the presentation of an account for a number of articles supplied. These included a 21 inch bell, 2121bs in weight, which approximiately cost £10, ten each of helmets, axes, belts and spanners, hydrant and branches, unions and 300 feet of hose. The total expenditure thus incurred totalled some £84. This, of course, does not exhaust the Brigade's requirements. It is proposed to obtain, amongst other things, ten uniforms at £2 12s 6d each and a hose reel at £34. Then a building to house tlie plant find appliances will have to be provided. In this latter connection a plan has already been prepared for a fire brigade station. The design allows for a bell tower, a room for the gear, a board room (for the use also of brigade members as a social hall), and a room for the town clerk of the new borough now in process of formation. The estimated cost of this building is £220. It should be said that the Town Board were of the opinion that some means should be adopted whereby any outlay on the Board's part would be | refunded by the townspeople either by way of subscriptions or from the proceeds of entertainments of various kinds. It was stated that the promised subscriptions totalled £3O. The sports that were held for the purpose of augmenting the funds did not provide any surplus, although incidentally the fire brigade events proved of value in quickening public interest in the movement.
