MATAMATA' BRANCH. Meeting of Executive. 0 There was a good attendance of members at a special meeting of the executive of the Matamata branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on Wednesday, Mr. D. B. Higgins presiding. The bulk of the evening was given over to an informal discussion [of the Unemployment Bill, and prac- > tically no other business was dealt ! with. I The chairman outlined in fair de- | tail the experiences of the deputation I which waited on Cabinet Ministers I in Wellington, giving the statements of members of the party and the re- • plies of Ministers. I Mr. J. Simpson thanked Mr. HigI gins for his account of the trip and j congratulated the deputation on the j manner in which members had put j forward their case. He moved that I the report be typed, after being perused by a committee of three, and copies forwarded to other branches. Mr. Sutherland seconded the mo- ! tion, which was carried unanimously. | Mr. Hawke moved that the comI mittee be Messrs. Rollett, Simpson and Price. This was seconded by Mr. Bruce and approved. An informal discussion then took place on the Government’s unemployment proposals, but, as it was pointed j out that until the regulations were I published no one could say what the procedure would be, no resolution was passed. On the motion of Mr. Simpson it was decided that the arrangements 1 for the visit of the Minister cf : Labour, Hon. S. G. Smith, to Mata- “ mata be left in the hands of the ’ chairman. ! The chairman reported that the ' Sinclair scheme had been printed and , copies were now being forwarded to : all dairy companies throughout New I Zealand. :
