MATAMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
NOVEMBER MEETING. The November meeting of the Matamata County Council was attended by Crs. J. W. Anderson (Tirau, chairman), J. Bruce (Karapiro), IK. S. Cox (Tokoroa), W. H. Allen (Okoroire), P. Dee (Te Poi), J. Moir j (Peria), E. Nickle (Maungatautari) and A. T. Morriss (Putaruru). Also in attendance were Mr. J. A. Beck, recently-appointed as clerk, Mr. C. F. E. Barton, late clerk, and Mr. M. E. Fitzgerald, engineer. T.T.T. Railway. The Minister of Agriculture advised that the Taupo Totara Timber Company, Ltd., had intimated that it was prepared to renew the agreement with the Government for subsidy on manures carried on the T.T.T. line. The Taupo Totara Timber Co. wrote to the same effect. Cr. Cox stated that a further communication had came to the Putaruru conference stating that the Railway Department were now prepared to allow their waggons to go to Lichfield. He thought Mr. Guillard, the contractor, should be informed of that. The engineer stated that he would advise Mr. Guillard. The other letters were received. Salvation Army Home. The Salvation Army Training Farm authorities wrote from Putaruru stating a good job had been made of their access road by relief workers, and stating that rolling was needed to finish it off. Permission was asked for the erection of big direction signs at each end of the road. It was decided to reply that the intention of the council was to see that the road was rolled. The erection of the signs was agreed to. Mokai to. Putaruru. Mr. Lindeman, Mokai, forwarded a long letter asking for a special permit to cart posts by road from Mokai to Putaruru. The engineer stated that the council had been battling hard for years to get such heavy loads carried on the T.T.T. line. He thought it could be proved that it would pay to carry such goods by the railway instead of by road. On the motion of the chairman, it was decided to reply that the application would be considered on the same footing as others. Riding Accounts. The finances of the various ridings as on November 14, in round figures, were reported by the treasurer to be as follow: Riding. Expended. Balance. £. £.
The column headed “ expended ” covers the amount expended during the present financial year, while the column headed “ balance ” gives the balance of money available for work in each riding until March 31 next.
