On a number ot occasions it has been stated in the Waikato press that petrol is an effective solution for the destruction of ragwort, and the fluid now has another advocate m Mr. A. Montgomery, of Cambridge. Mr. Montgomery has a farm m the ie Puke district and a year or two ago portions of it were badly infested i with ragwort. War was declared on the pest by Mr. Montgomery’s man- : ager, and among other things petrol was tried with surprisingly good re--1 suits. Last season ah acre paddock, . fairly well infested, was used as an experimental area. On this acre two gallons of petrol were used, and the result to-day is a clean paddock. ?he method was merely to bruise each plant with the heel and pour a small quantity of petrol on the ragwort.
