M.P.’S REMARKS RESENTED.
BY WOMEN’S DIVISION, v Not a Political Organisation. At the October meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union on Monday strong exception was taken to the remarks recently made in the House by Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P. for Wellington Suburbs, who was reported to have stated that the housekeepers and nurses employed by the W.D.F.U. were sent into the country to direct the political views of the women in the backblocks.
It was pointed out that the W.D.F.U. was entirely non-political, and that political discussions were not allowed at the branch meetings. It was further stated that Mr. H. M. Rushworth, M.P., had challenged the accuracy of Mr. Wright’s remarks, but no satisfaction had been received. On the motion of the president, Mrs. Campbell, it was decided to express strong resentment at Mr. .Wright’s remarks and ask him to substantiate or withdraw them.
