RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
(To the Editor). .Sir, —Whatever may have been reported in the Press, the fact remains that the official report of the executive of the P.R.A., on the subject of the Recreation Ground scheme, contains no reference to “ expressed opposition ” to the proposal. It reads as follows: “ On the subject of the Recreation Ground it is considered by .your executive that on the face of it £7O to £BO per acre is too much money to pay for the land which it is proposed to acquire.” No more; no less. The report which contained the foregoing was adopted by the Executive of the Association and signed by six .members, including the gentleman named in “Not a Member’s” last letter. At a general meeting of the P.R.A. the report of the executive was confirmed. As to whether the paragraph in .question may or may not be regarded as opposition, expressed or otherwise, I am well content to leave the matter to your readers to decide.
Meantime, may I take this opportunity of replying to the letter signed hy Mr. F. C. Flyger which appeared an your last week’s issue. The matter of school swimming baths has not, to the writer’s knowledge, been the subject of discussion at any meeting of the P.R.A. The meeting to which Mr. Flyger refers and at which the discussion took place was a meeting of ratepayers and electors pure and simple, convened for the purpose of hearing condidates’ views. That other, matters .of public interest were discussed is not surprising, but the P.R.A. was not in any way concerned with such expressions of opinion as -were voiced at that meeting. Thanking vou, Mr. Editor, I am, etc., MEMBER STILL.
