STOCK ROUTE.

COMMITTEE SET UP. New Route to be Enquired Into. The Mamaku-Putaruru stock route v/as a subject that occupied some time at the October meeting of the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce. Mr. D. D. Sneddon, who was one of a deputation that recently waited cn the Matamata County Council relative to the matter, said that the County Council representatives were willing to go over the route if someone who knew the way could be found. The last time the council had gone out to find the road they had got lost. With the help of the settlers affected he felt sure that they could get t!v portion of the road through the Town Board area done. Of course, they would have to get the sanction of the Town Board, but he thought that this could be obtained. Mr. R. E. Taylor stated the Maoris rode through to Mamaku. Regarding the nearer route, the people interested should be got together to discuss the matter. It was pointed out that the use of the route through the Town Board area would direct stock from Taupo from being driven on the main highway.

Mr. C. C. Neal agreed that a round table conference would be the best method of arriving at a decision. Mr. Sneddon stated that he ‘did not think that they should drop the Arahiwi route, but that they should get someone to take the Matamata county representatives over it. Mr. Neal agreed with Mr. Sneddon. On the motion of Mr. Taylor, it was decided to set up a committee consisting of Messrs. T. F. Snell, i{. E. Taylor, J. R. O. Lochhead and A. L. Mason to arrange a conference with the parties concerned. The committee were instructed to find a suitable person to escort the county delegates over the Araliivvi route. Votes of thanks were accorded the Matamata County Council for the attentive hearing that they had accorded the deputation, and to the members of the deputation.
